Nickel Crucible User Instructions
- The melting point of nickel is 1455°C, and nickel has strong alkali resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, nickel crucibles are commonly used to melt iron alloys, slag, clay, and refractory materials.
- The temperature of the nickel crucibles to melt samples should not exceed 700°C, as at high temperature, nickel will be oxidized.
- The nickel crucibles cannot be used for the burning of precipitation.
- Nickel crucibles are suitable for melting samples of NaOH, Na2O2, Na2CO3, NaHCO3 and alkaline solvents containing KNO3. It is not suitable for melting samples of acidic solvents such as KHSO4 or NaHS04, K2S2O7 or Na2S2O7 and alkaline sulfide flux containing sulfur.
- Metal salts such as Al, Zn, Pb, Sn, Hg in the molten state can make the nickel crucible brittle. Borax also cannot be melted in a nickel crucible.
- Nickel crucibles often contain trace amounts of chromium, consider this before use.
- The new nickel crucible should be burned to blue-purple in a muffle furnace to remove the oil on the crucible surface, then boil it with 1:20 HCl for a few minutes, and then clean it with pure water.
